Iris Ethel Safferstein

SAFFERSTEIN Iris Ethel Safferstein, age 75 of Pittsburgh, Pa., (previously of Fairfield) passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 at the center for Compassionate Care. Mrs. Safferstein was born in Deep River, a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Samuels) Silverman, and was the loyal wife of the late Samuel O. Safferstein. Iris was an independent spirit whose nursing career spanned more than 25 years of love and dedication. She will be greatly mourned by all whose souls she touched. Iris was the caring and nurturing mother of Harold Safferstein and his wife, Karen Peterson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Ruth Bar-Chai of Israel. She was the proud grandmother of 11 really fantastic grandchildren, Dovid, Shmuel, Arya, Uri, Elya, Batya, Shira, Aharon, Sam, Kira and Jack. Mrs. Safferstein is also survived by a sister, Miriam Miller. She was predeceased by her siblings, Leonard Silverman, Frances Palais and Ruth Elgart. Funeral services will take place Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home 88 Beach Road Fairfield, with interment following at B'nai Israel Cemetery, Kings Highway in Fairfield.
