Jack Berkowitz of Fairfield, CT and Delray Beach, FL, died peacefully on February 4, 2013 at St. Vincent's Medical Center with his family at his side. He was born on October 7, 1927 to Frieda and Louis Berkowitz in Bridgeport, CT. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Golde, who was his soul mate for 59 years. Jack was co-founder with his brother, Harold (predeceased), of the Duchess Family Restaurants and City Line Distributors over 50 years ago. He thoughtfully and generously brought family and childhood friends into his business ventures. In addition, he was involved in many commercial real estate developments. Besides his work, he was involved in many philanthropic organizations including The Hillel Academy, Jewish Community Center, Jewish Home For The Elderly, and UJA. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sports with his family. He was a true "family man" and adored his children and grandchildren. His survivors include his children Lynn Schwimer and her husband Neil, Natalie Berkowitz, and Michael Berkowitz, grandchildren Lindsay Schwimer, Jonathan and Daniel Hadad, Julian and Alec Berkowitz, and brothers in law, Harold Levitz, Sidney Fialk, Herb and Phil Goldem and sister in law Dorothy Fialk, and many nieces and nephews. Services will take place on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 11 AM at the Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, CT, with interment following at the Ahavath Achim Cemetery in Fairfield, CT.
