Janice Rule Obituary

Janice M. Rule
Janice Mary Rule, 60, of Milford, beloved wife of 30 years to Robert Rule, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2018. Born on July 31, 1957 in New Haven, she was the daughter of Jeanette Sojka and the late Joseph E. Sojka. Janice was born in Saint Raphael Hospital and spent her childhood in Derby. She was always a bright student, becoming part of the National Honor Society at Derby High School. Janice went on to attend Albertus Magnus College where she graduated with degrees in biology and chemistry in 1979. From 1980 to 1982, she spent time in the Peace Corps, traveling to Honduras to help new mothers with their children. She also traveled extensively to Mexico and Spain before taking time off to raise her family. After her children were old enough, Janice went back to school to obtain a degree in teaching and pursue her passion of educating children. She taught third grade at Orange Avenue Elementary from '01-'02, Simon Lake Elementary from '02-'10, and Calf Pen Elementary from '10-'13 before becoming a math coach at JFK in 2013. Janice loved Zumba and staying active. She made many friends at A1 Fitness Center in Orange through her Zumba classes. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends, all whom will miss her dearly. Along with her loving husband, Janice is survived by her sons, Dr. Seth M. Rule, physician in FL, and Evan J. Rule, PhD candidate in physics at Berkeley; siblings, Dennis (Grace) Sojka, Joseph (Carol) Sojka, Jr., and Theresa (David) Levis; nieces and nephews, Deanna, Dennis, Jr., Joseph, Anthony, Joyce, Sarah, Emily, Shannon, and Elizabeth; great niece and nephew, Penelope and Dylan; brother's-in-law, Jake (Eileen) Rule and Richard Rule; goddaughter, Lynette; and many extended family members and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital for their compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will be private. Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad Street Milford, CT 06460.
