Janice Wilson Obituary

WILSON Janice Armstrong Wilson, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2008 in Suffolk, Virginia. Janice was born on December 25, 1918 in Cambridge, Mass.,to Ethel May Rogers Limbach and Russell August Limbach. She was an only child and, following the divorce of her parents, her maiden name was legally changed to Janice Armstrong Rogers. She grew up in Brookline, MA, and graduated from Lasell Junior College in 1939. She became an assistant buyer at Chandler's, Boston, MA, while studying merchandising at Simmons College. During World War II, Janice joined the United States Naval Reserve as one of the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES), and attained the rating of Storekeeper First Class. Her military assignments included duty at the Navy Department in Washington, DC and at the Office of the Port Director, Boston, MA. She married Richard Walker Wilson of Newton, MA on April 7, 1945 in the Church of the Advent, Boston, MA, and raised four sons while living in Connecticut. Janice headed the jewelry and silverware division of Mertz Department Store in Torrington, CT, and served on the Alter Guilds of Trinity Episcopal Church, Torrington, CT; St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Monroe, CT; and Trinity-St. Michel's Parish, Fairfield, CT. Janice also served as President of the Monroe Historical Society and held leadership positions as a member of Unit #42, WAVES National. Her youngest son, Bruce Allan Wilson was killed in an automobile accident in 1968, and her husband passed away in 1994. Janice is survived by three beloved sons, COL (Ret.) Richard Armstrong Wilson of Suffolk, VA; Paul Edmund Wilson of Shelton, CT; and Stephen Andrew Wilson of Keenesaw, GA. Beloved survivors include three daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren, one step-grandchild, one grandson-in-law, one granddaughter-in law, three great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Janice will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT, on Saturday, 16 August 2008 at 11am. Interment, with military honors, will immediately follow the service at Monroe Center Cemetery, Route 110, Monroe, CT. In lieu of flowers,
