Joan A. Carpenter, age 91, of Fairfield, died on Sunday, September 4, 2022 in Bridgeport Hospital. She was born on July 15, 1931 in Bridgeport to the late Gregorio Crespo and the late Rose Money Crespo. In her younger years, Joan enjoyed singing and was the lead singer in the band Joanie Reed and the True Tones. She met her husband, the late Robert A Carpenter, at a dance at the Ritz Ballroom. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage until his passing in 2005. She was predeceased by her two adult daughters, Donna R. Sederquest, and Wendy J. Carpenter, both of whom passed away at early ages. She enjoyed traveling in Europe and the US with her daughters, collecting antiques, and reading poetry, particularly Maya Angelou. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and ensured there were always second helpings for everyone.
Never at a loss for words, Joan was quite the storyteller and no story was complete without full details of every backstory. Her love for her Keurig was legendary and her day could not begin without her cup of Dunkin' with a generous helping of French Vanilla creamer. Despite her advanced age, she was quite proficient with her use of texting lingo, and very much enjoyed speaking and texting with family and friends. Joan was employed for more than 30 years at Steinbach as a Sales Associate before retiring. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Kathleen Manente and Ralph Manente; her niece Karen Clausi and her husband James; and her nephew Michael Manente and his wife Melinda. She is also survived by her grandchildren Renee R. Carpenter and Andrew Carpenter; several cousins, three grandnieces, and a grandnephew. Private funeral services took place on Saturday, September 10 at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield under the direction of the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME of EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Road.
