Joan Komisar Obituary

Joan F. Komisar
1932 - 2022
Joan Ellen Fisher Komisar, 89, formerly of Fairfield, CT and Delray Beach, FL, died peacefully Friday, September 23, in Atlanta, GA, surrounded by loving family and caregivers.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, Joan was the daughter of loving parents, Sam and Jeanette Fisher. She was the beloved and devoted wife for 50 years of the late Harold Komisar; loving mother of Susan Komisar Hausman (Jonathan) and Stephen Komisar; adored and adoring grandmother of Josh Komisar, Ali Popowski (Gabe), and Jacqueline Hausman. She is survived also by cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving brother, Gerard Fisher.
After growing up in Bridgeport, Joan attended Boston University, then returned to CT where she worked for Bob Crane and Manning Slater at WICC. Many years later, after raising her children, she worked alongside her husband in their retail store, Earport Records, in Fairfield. Then, at the urging of a dear friend who was a travel agent, Joan learned the travel business, focusing on corporate travel. She spent many years booking trips for a long list of clients, a job she very much enjoyed and which offered treasured travel opportunities for her and her husband.
Later on in their lives, Joan and Harold relocated to Delray Beach where they enjoyed the weather (no more slush or shoveling snow!), meeting great neighbors and other new friends, spending time with snowbird pals as well as nearby family. It was a happy lifestyle change.
Once widowed, Joan spent much time visiting her children and grandchildren, with extended stays in New England and Georgia. No visit back to Fairfield was ever complete without spending time at the beaches (Penfield, Sasco, Southport), places she'd enjoyed throughout her life and which continued to hold a special place in her heart.
"Joanie" was a lover of playing bridge, breakfasts at the diner, visits to the hair salon, reading The New York Times, watching UConn women's basketball and Patriots football, trips to New York City, Broadway shows, dining out, shopping, playing guitar, spending time with her family and friends, and ice cream (extra hot fudge!). She will be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 12:00 PM from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT 06824, with interment following at Beth EL Cemetery on Reid Street in Fairfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research jdrf.org

Dear Susan and Steve,
I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother.
She and I were friends such a long time ago. I still remember her 16th birthday party! And it was so nice having you all as neighbors in Fairfield. Your Mom was very special and I know how much she will be missed.
My sincere condolences,
Marilyn Masnik (Citronberg)

Dear Susan and Stephen,
I am so sorry to learn of your Mom's death. Joan was a good neighbor, always smiling and pleasant. I also remember your grandmother riding past our house in a taxi twice every day. Hoping your good memories hep you through these difficult days.
