John Bargas Obituary

BARGAS John Bargas of Boynton Beach, FL, formerly of Lighthouse Point, FL died peacefully at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, FL, on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Lowell, MA on February 13, 1923. He spent the majority of his childhood in Bridgeport, where he was a graduate of Central High School. He was a proud Naval Veteran of World War II, serving in both Europe and Japan. When the war ended, John went on to play minor league baseball within the Philadelphia Athletics organization throughout South Florida and Cuba. After his baseball career and several years of employment he decided to continue his education at Florida State University. John graduated from Florida State and was accepted into the University of Florida Law School where he went on to earn his degree in 1955. Upon graduation, John moved his family back to Bridgeport to work with his brother Chris at Capital Realty, where he first began his career in Real Estate and development. He continued his involvement in Real Estate by opening his own Law Practice where he represented many area builders in Bridgeport. In 1961, John was advised to move to a warmer climate because of health problems and moved his family to South Florida. Over the next 50 years he developed many homes and condominiums throughout the region. John was an eternal optimist who always saw the best in everyone. And above all, he was a "Man of his Word." A man of many interests, John especially loved playing golf, fishing, traveling with friends, and cooking for his family. He was a voracious reader and life long student who immersed himself in books of all genres. John was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Genelle. He leaves to celebrate his memory and spirit, his beloved wife, Nina; his children, Nancy Jankovsky of Redding, CT, and her husband Peter, Susan Griffin of Cape Coral, FL., and her husband Dan, and David Bargas of Boca Raton, FL, and his wife Lori; one brother, Chris Bargas and his wife Rose of Trumbull; seven grandchildren, Laurie Orgera and her husband Walter, Brian Jankovsky and his wife Diana, Lisa Jankovsky, Zach, Jordan, and Jake Bargas, and Carrie Griffin; two great grandchildren, Jack and Ella Orgera; two nephews, Thomas Bargas and his wife Pamela, and James Bargas and his wife Gertrude; many Great Nieces and Nephews. We are very appreciative to Dr. Peter Radice and Dr. Seba Krumholtz for their compassion and dedication. Services were private and donations may be made to Hospice By The Sea in the memory of John Bargas. Hospice By The Sea 1531 W. Palmetto Park Rd. John was a great man. We were honored to have him in our extended family. We always enjoyed his company, his kindness, his humor and thoughtfulness. He is missed, not only by his children and family, but by all who new him.

To the Bargas Family,
I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing; I have so many fond memories of us all together so many years ago when visiting Thea and Theo Bargas in Bridgeport. My thoughts are with all of you.

John Bargas - A life well lived. He was a devoted husband, father and friend that everyone could count on. His talents and interests were many - professional athlete, lawyer, gardener, cook, mentor, and eternal optimist who was a role model for all of us who knew him. He was impeccable with his word, and we often said that his word was better than a "bullet-proof" contract. Even during his last days when he was in great pain, his buoyant spirit was an inspiration to those who spent his last days with him. He was a man for all seasons, and we will miss him. I am fortunate that he was a friend of mine.

To the Bargas and Jankovsky Families,
Although I just met your dad briefly, through Nancy I felt as if I knew him. He impressed me as a man who loved his family deeply and a man of strong character, kindness and dignity. I know that he will be greatly missed but know that the memories of this wonderful man will remain in your hearts forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
