John Fedick Obituary

FEDICK John N. Fedick of Easton, died suddenly, surrounded by friends at the Wonderland of Ice, on Monday, October 22, 2007. Born in New York City, he was a son of the late William and Mary Fedyk, both Ukrainian immigrants. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. John was a graduate of the University of Chicago where he received a BS Degree in Economics, and the University of Michigan where he received his BMA Degree in Mathematics. He was formerly employed by Dunham-Bush, where he served as vice president of finance and was also a former financial executive for the Sperry Rand Corporation at both Vickers Hydraulics and Remington Shaver. John was recently inducted into the Financial Executives Institute's Key Club in recognition of 40 years of membership. He was also a member of the National Association of Accountants and served on the Board of Directors at Dunhan-Bush, Inc. John's greatest achievement of all, came from the time he spent at the Wonderland of Ice. He along with his late wife and daughter, took great pride and enjoyment in providing the children of the Greater Fairfield County area with an arena where they could develop personal skills, competitiveness and learn the meaning of sportsmanship, while building character. John was a motivational coach for numerous hockey teams, including State Champions Fairfield Prep where his "can do" attitude inspired his hero, Chris Drury. He was one of the founders of the Wonderland Wizards Jr. Ice Hockey Association. John developed many dear and close relationships at the rink and he will be deeply missed by many. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy Digman Fedick. Survivors include his devoted and loving daughter, Lisa Fedick, as well as his extended family at the Wonderland of Ice, especially John Ferguson and the entire Ferguson family, who will all miss him dearly. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 2 p.m. in St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Wonderland of Ice, 123 Glenwood Avenue, Bridgeport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the "Beyond Wonderland" Foundation, which was established to provide assistance with the continuing education of his Wonderland extended family. Lisa;
My heart goes out to you with the passing of your father.
It was a treat for me to visit with him when I would call on your rink or just having the opportunity at one of the shows that he would attend.
I do not think that I will ever be able to forget our dinner together in SLC while at the Olympics.
Every time that I see the video "What about Bob" at a store or on TV I will smile as it brings back the memories of your father and some of the stories that make me laugh.
May God help you through these times and know that you have many friends who are there if you need someone to talk with.

Rest in peace Mr. Fedick, you will be missed. Each time I went into the rink when you were there you always had a beautiful smile on your face. You always came up to me and had a kind word and a warm hug. I enjoyed getting to know you.

Lisa,
We were so saddened to hear the news of your Dad. What a wonderful man he was to so many people, and his kindness to our family will always be remembered. If there was ever a more devoted and caring Prep hockey enthusiast and subway alumni, I can't imagine. He made everyone I know feel like a welcome guest at his "home" which for many of us at one time or another, was our home away from home. His spirit, I am quite sure, lives in the character and heart of every kid who walked through those doors at 5a.m. And their achievements were his achievements....What a legacy he's left!
May he be happy in heaven.
With love from the The Macleod Family
