John Hampford Obituary

John E. Hampford Jr.
John E. Hampford Jr., age 65, a resident of Trumbull, died Friday, September 6, 2024, at Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Hampford was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on May 20, 1959, the son of John E. and Clare M. (Tee) Hampford. He was a graduate of Trumbull High School and American University in Washington, DC.
John was a Senior Director with Public Sector Services for Alvarez and Marsal, where he specialized in business process and finance management for clients, including the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Education, the Government of Guam, and the New Orleans Public School System, where he oversaw the rebuild of the school system after Hurricane Katrina. During his time in New Orleans, he became a dedicated fan of the New Orleans Saints and passed that love on to his two sons.
He was a walk-on pitcher for the AU baseball team, where he earned the nickname OC (Out of Control) for the velocity and occasional wildness of his pitches as well as his partying. But his real love was the game of golf. John was an avid and competitive player, and a long-time member of Brooklawn Country Club, where he won four club championships. He qualified for and competed in several USGA Championships, including the US Amateur and the US Mid-Amateur. He played many of the world's great courses, such as Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, and Saint Andrew's, but was most honored to be a Member of the Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Florida and a Captain Member of Hogs Head Golf Club in Waterville, Ireland.
John is survived by his sons: John E. Hampford III and his fiancée, Jenn McDonald, of Stratford, and William P. Hampford of Newtown; his siblings: Kate (Joe) Donahue of Trumbull, Anne Hampford of Easton, Martin Hampford of Shelton, and Tim Hampford of New Haven; his nieces and nephews: Katy Wynn, Grace Donahue, Jimmy Donahue, Mia Hampford, Clare Hampford, Maeve Hampford, and Norah Hampford.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13th, at 11:00am in Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call Thursday, September 12th, from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Sorry for his death. Obit doesn't say what he died of. He was a smart, nice guy in school. Knew he would succeed.

My sincere and deepest condolences to the Hampford Family. John will be missed dearly by everyone at the Floridian. John was an ambassador in building the culture at the club. He made my time at Hogs Head and Floridian very memorable and special. His kindness, generosity and smile will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.

Condolences to the Hampford Family. John gave us so many memories. Sounds funny saying John, he was always OC. Always will be. OC was more than a walk-on for the AU Baseball Team. He was a focal point with his talent and enthusiasm. He had great stuff and was the ace of the staff for a season. What a competitor. The team had a click of 6-7 guys. Who would have thought that two Connecticut walk-ons would be at the center of that click. Thank you for the everlasting memories.

Madeleine and I offer our sincere condolences to the family on John´s passing.
I met John in a round of golf at Brooklawn in the early `90´s with Billy Dober and Bruno and immediately liked him and continued our friendship through the years. He was a generous and kind individual who I am
happy to have called a friend.

John and I met thru some impromptu interclub golf matches between Brooklawn and Stanwich, and we hit it off from the word go! We were member guest partners at both places for many years. We even snuck him in as a Stanwich contestant in a MET PGA tourney down in Kiawah back in the early 90's. What a player! Always fun to be around him on the golf course, and the 19th hole!

My deepest condolences to his siblings and his sons. May he Rest in Peace.

I am so saddened to see that John has passed. I went to high school with him and we became friends not too long after that. He was a great man. May he rests in peace.
