John McLeod, Sr.
1931 - 2025
John S. McLeod Sr., age 94, beloved husband of Agnes "Miki" McLeod, of Oxford, Connecticut, passed away July 20, 2025. He was born in Bridgeport in 1931 to parents John and Stasia (Szymanski) McLeod. A longtime resident of Milford, Cape Cod, and Oxford, he grew up in Seaside Village, Bridgeport, before moving to Milford and graduating from Milford High School in 1948. John was a talented athlete who played professional baseball as an outfielder in the Portsmouth Cubs' organization in New Bern, N.C. and elsewhere from 1949 to 1951. He played fastpitch softball for the Raybestos Cardinals, highlighted by playing shortstop on the world championship teams in 1955 and 1958. He was inducted into the Connecticut Softball Hall of Fame and held the Cardinals' single season homerun record for about a decade. His final appearance on the diamond was pitching an inning in the Senior City League in 1978 for his sons' team. His greatest sports love was golf, spending countless hours on the courses, especially while living on Cape Cod. John held several jobs in his life from a small store in the South End of Bridgeport to a long career in data processing for Raybestos-Manhattan. His great joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially coaching and watching them play sports. He also enjoyed reading, tennis, yardwork, and watching every Red Sox game. He maintained a lifelong friendship with a group of friends from Milford High. He reconnected later in life with childhood friends from the South End. John served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in the military police branch at a nuclear weapons site in Texas and Ft. Story, Virginia. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy (Morgan), and his brother Ronald McLeod (Marilyn). Survivors are his children John "Jack" McLeod Jr., Richard McLeod (Loretta), Mark McLeod, Susan Morse (Willis), Robert Forbes (Patty), and Kevin Forbes (Virginia); and grandchildren Amanda McLeod, Nicole Petrizzo (Drew), Scott McLeod, Daniel McLeod, John Morse, Harrison Forbes, Michaela Forbes, Brian Forbes (Becca), Mary Forbes; and great-grandson Ezra Forbes. Contributions may be made to
The Jimmy Fund as a tip of the hat to John's favorite baseball player, Ted Williams. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT 06483, and services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit us at
