John Shea Obituary

John W. "Jack" Shea
John W. Shea, Jr. "Jack", 77, of Fairfield, CT, formerly of Greenwood Lake and Chester, NY, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was married to the love of his life, Jean (Gordon) Shea for 53 years. He is survived by his four children, John (Laura) Shea, Jennifer (Andrew) Sherriff, Jeanne (Michael) Galvin and James (Kiley) Shea, all of Fairfield, CT; his 14 beloved grandchildren: Jack, Connor, Reilly, Kieran, Aidan, Paddy, Mickey, Tommy, Johnny, Gracie, Marin, Cian, Finn and Brigh; as well as his seven brothers and sisters, Patricia Duffy, Jean (Bill) Toner, Kathy Conner, Michael (Phyllis) Shea, Billy (Laura) Shea, Mary Shea and Jimmy Shea; and dozens of beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, John W. Shea, Sr. and June (Fleming) Shea of Queens, NY.
Jack joined the NYPD in 1969 and earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Criminal Justice from John J. College in New York.
After 25 years of service, Jack retired as a second grade detective from the New York City Police Department where he finished his career with the NYPD / FBI Joint Terrorist Task Force. After retiring from the NYPD, he had a long career in private security management, working at The Fairfax Group, The Pyramid Management Group and Michael Stapleton Associates.
Jack was a devout Catholic, avid reader and traveler. Jack loved to travel with his wife, taking trips with dear friends to Ireland, France, Italy, Holland, England, Scotland, Canada and around the US.
After raising their family and making lifelong friends in Greenwood Lake and Chester, NY, Jack and Jean ultimately moved to Fairfield, CT, to spend more time with his favorite people, his children and grandchildren. He could always be found at a ski race, dance recital, baseball, soccer or basketball game, cheering his grandchildren on to victory or driving them to practices and games. We know he will be cheering for them from heaven.
Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 4-8 PM at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT. My heartfelt sympathies to Jean and family. I worked with Jack on the FBI/NYPD task force back in the day. He was a gentleman, an interesting guy, a good cop, and fun to have a drink with. Most importantly, he loved his family...talked of them all the time, and was so proud of their accomplishments. I sometimes picked him up at his Chester home, we drove to work together, and I always looked forward to our interesting talks. He will be missed.
