John Wetmore Obituary

WETMORE John D. ("Jack") Wetmore, age 85 of Stratford died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Ludlowe Health Care Center in Fairfield with members of his family at his bedside. Jack was predeceased by his best friend and wife, Rose Marie ("Rosie") Kenney Wetmore. Mr. Wetmore was born in Bridgeport and was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport and Lordship Beach. He was the son of Charles and Esther Wetmore and was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Wetmore (and his wife Carolyn) and two sisters, Mary Tomascak (and her husband, Emil) and Fay Wonneberger (and her husband, Bill) and his sister-in-law Ruth Ann DeRose (and her husband, Bob). Mr. Wetmore was a graduate of Harding High School and Bowling Green State University of Ohio and served as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy. He was a sales agent for Metropolitan Insurance for 30 years and worked as a security guard for St. Vincent's Hospital for more than 10 years. In his spare time, weekends and holidays, he worked with his good friend Mike at D'Andrea's Religious Goods Store in Bridgeport. Jack will always be remembered as a hard worker, a dependable friend and a devoted husband, father and uncle. He loved family, friends, sitting on the beach, painting anything that didn't move (especially yellow), playing and watching golf, the Celtics and the Giants and let's not forget, a new car every three years. His proudest achievements were his children (or that's what Rosie would tell him). He is survived by his devoted children, Thomas and his wife, Laura of Fairfield; Edward and his wife, Lynn of Trumbull; Rosanne and her partner, Bill Enright of Boston, MA.; Donna Wetmore and her husband, Bill Gildea of Milford and David "DJ" and his wife, Kris of Stratford. Pop Jack is also survived by 10 grandchildren - Elena, Griffin, Tucker, Brett, Molly, Tori, Brady, Tess, Joey and Jack. He was predeceased by 2 grandsons, Philip and Justin. Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral, Friday 10 AM (DIRECTLY) at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Stratford (Lordship), for a mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Thursday in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport from 4 to 8 PM. The family wishes to thank the staff of Ludlowe for all of the care that they provided to Jack. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the McGivney Center, an educational and recreational center for children, located on the campus of St. Charles Church at 338 Stillman Street, Bridgeport, CT 06608.

Mr. Wetmore never got angry at us for playing so much basketball in the backyard. He has a wonderful son in Tom Wetmore.
