Jon Gerte Obituary
Age 54, of Stratford, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 17, 2016. Jon was the much beloved son of Raymond F. and Sandra L. (Reaney) Gerte of Wilmington, NC and formerly of Stratford.
Jon was born in Bridgeport and had been a lifelong Stratford resident. He graduated from Bunnell High School and then earned in Associate degree in Business administration and a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven.
Jon was very devoted to his family. He had a heart of gold and was loved by many. Outgoing and kind, Jon never met a stranger. He enjoyed golfing and spending time at the beach or on the water.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Marc Francis Gerte and Todd Christopher Gerte; and two cherished nieces, Jessika and Jolina Gerte.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 9 am to 10 am at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. James Church officiated by Rev. Thomas J. Lynch. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 2151, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38101 or www.stjude.org. My deepest sympathies to Jon's family and close friends. We were fortunate to be neighbors these last years -- he was a great addition to the neighborhood and a good man. Always so kind to my young boys. We kept hoping that improving health was just around the corner. He will be missed.
