Joseph Gondola Obituary

GONDOLA Joseph A. Gondola age 86, of Shelton, beloved widow of Marge Hornyak Gondola his wife of 58 years, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Bridgeport Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer. Born in Bridgeport on August 2, 1921 to the late Alex and Susana Tarnoczi Gondola, he was a longtime resident of the Huntington section of Shelton after spending 26 years in Trumbull. Joe was a proud veteran of World War II serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Corps. Prior to his retirement he was employed with CL & P for more than 40 years. He enjoyed boating, golfing and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Masonic Fidelity St. John‚s III, Fairfield, Masonic 32 Degree Mason Bridgeport Consistory, American Legion Post 141, Trumbull, Salt Water Fisherman, Elks Post 2220, Fairfield, The Police Square Club and was a lifetime member of Fayerweather Yacht Club. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Gondola Toigo of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Jane Gondola Baker of Bridgewater; four grandchildren , Terri Clay of Michigan, Joe Toigo of Kentucky, John Toigo of Michigan, and Stephen Baker of Bridgewater; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Alex Gondola and his wife, Betty, of Stuart, Fla.; two sisters, Elza Perigyi and her husband, Al, of Fairfield, and Eleanor Bodner of Glen Falls, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews and his devoted companion, Elizabeth (Betty) Horvath. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Friday at 10:45 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield, and at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ, 717 Clinton Ave., Bridgeport. With interment to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield with full military honors. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if donations be made in Joe‚s memory to United Home Hospice 40 Lindeman Dr., Trumbull, Ct. 06611. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Neal Fischbach and Dr. Daniel Rudolph for their care and support during Joe‚s illness.
