Joseph Laveneziana Obituary

Joseph R. Laveneziana
Joseph R. Laveneziana Sr., age 67, of Shelton, beloved husband of Susan Dobbs Laveneziana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on June 26, 1958, he was the son of the late Raffaele and Annamaria DiStefano Laveneziana. A graduate of Fairfield Preparatory School Class of 1976, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of New Haven. He began his professional career with American Chemical and Refinery, where he was employed from 1981-1989, and also worked for Chubb Insurance Company. He would go on to a successful and distinguished 30-year career as the Executive Director Facilities, Safety & Security at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He would then go on to serve as the Senior Director of Asset and Facility Management for six years at Hartford Health Care. Joe enjoyed coaching his children's youth sports teams and was a proud fan of the New York Mets and the New York Jets. He enjoyed listening to all music but especially Bruce Springsteen and could often be found reading a good book and learning about the history of the world.
But above all things in life, his greatest role was that of husband, father and grandfather. He treasured time spent with his family and his smile was big and bright when his grandchildren were by his side. The values he taught and the unconditional love he gave will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his beloved wife of 41 years, Susan, survivors include his three loving children, Joseph R. Laveneziana Jr., and his wife Nora, Lauren E. Thayer and her husband Bill and Matthew M. Laveneziana and his wife Maria, three adored grandchildren, Clare, Joseph III and Zachary, a sister, Margherita Melissano and her husband Alfredo, a niece, Annmarie Dzurenda and her husband Joseph, a nephew, Vincent Melissano, as well as additional nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. directly in St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Entombment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. I was heartbroken to learn this afternoon of Joe's passing. We played together as children for a short while when we lived on the same street and his parents and his sister were very good friends with my parents. My deepest condolences to his wife, Susan, children and grandchildren.

Joe and I were co-workers. He at St. Vincent's Medical Center and I at the college. I always admired Joe and had the utmost respect for him. He did not have an easy job, but he always performed his duties flawlessly. I enjoyed working with him and will miss him. RIP Mr. L.
