Joseph A. Lembo Sr.

LEMBO Joseph A. Lembo Sr., age 92, husband of the late Antoinette Romano Lembo, of Ansonia, passed away peacefully on Sunday , February 24, 2008 at the Griffin Hospital in Derby. Mr. Lembo was born in Ansonia on September 25, 1915 son of the late Michael and Victoria Abbatiello Lembo. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was a hairdresser being the owner and operator of Jose Beauty Salon in Bridgeport from 1941 until 1976. He then managed the beauty shop at the former Howland Dept. Store in Hamden and the former Edward Malley Co. in New Haven and retired from the former Macy's in New Haven. He was a communicant of the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia having served as an usher and past president of the Catholic Men's Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council 10537 serving as past Grand Knight and was a 4th Degree Knight at the Bishop Nilan Post in Shelton. A veteran, he served in the US Army Air Corp during WW II and was a member of the American Legion in Ansonia. He was the secretary of the Tax Review Board in Ansonia for many years and was the past president of the Italian American Political Club in Ansonia. He is survived by two sons, Joseph A. Lembo Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of Orange, and Deacon Victor M. Lembo and his wife, Kathleen of Beacon Falls; two sisters, Phyliss Lembo and Mollie Lembo of Ansonia; son-in-law, Raphael D'Ambruoso of Orange; grandchildren, Allegra D'Ambruoso, Joseph A. Lembo III, Alysse Lembo, Jamie Lembo, and Kaitlyn Lembo and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Antoinette D'Ambruoso; brothers, Louis, Nicholas and Frank Lembo; sisters, Rose Lembo and Josephine Lembo and an infant daughter, Mary Lembo. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the Spinelli-Malerba-Ricciuti Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
