Josephine Barrett Obituary

BARRETT Josephine (Jo) Barrett, age 81, of Bridgeport, died on Thursday, May 25, 2006 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Jo was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Gene and Adrianna Baldell and was a lifelong city resident. Jo graduated from Bassick High School and St. Vincent's School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She also attended Columbia University School Nursing. Early in her nursing career, Jo worked at Engelwood Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. After taking time off to raise her children, Jo returned to geriatric nursing, working at Southport Manor and then for 16 years as head nurse of East Wing at Carolton Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield. An avid golfer, Jo was a member of Hillandale Country Club, Oronoque Country Club and Grassy Hill Country Club. Jo was a member of St. Andrew's Rosary Society, the Trumbull Women's Group and a volunteer at Birthright in Bridgeport for many years. Jo was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Barrett, who died February 28, 2006; her parents; a brother, Albert Baldell; and a sister, Bea Baldell. She is survived by four sons, Michael Barrett and his wife, Sharon, of Trumbull, Thomas Barrett and his wife, Carol, of South Windsor, Patrick Barrett and his wife, Patricia, of Fairfield and Timothy Barrett and his partner, Richard Levine, of Aylett, Va.; her sister, Florence Potak and her husband, John, of Creedmoor, N.C.; and her eight grandchildren, Sean and Brian Barrett of Trumbull, Timothy, Christopher and Erin Barrett of South Windsor and Michael, Kelly and Kristie Barrett of Fairfield. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport and at 11:30 a.m. in St. Andrew's Church, Bridgeport. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Swim Across the Sound, c/o St. Vincent's Medical Center, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT 06605.

Michael, Tommy, Patrick and Timmy-

Sorry to hear about your Mom. I remember all the fun times we had in grammer school when our mothers took us all everywhere and always made sure we had a good time. Hope you are all doing well during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
