Joyce Kane Miller, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025. She was the devoted wife of the late William "Bing" Miller, with whom she shared 62 years of loving marriage. Joyce was born in Shelton on April 6, 1927, daughter of the late George and Louise Goodier Kane, and was a lifelong resident of Shelton.
She was a graduate of Shelton High School, Class of 1942, and was a dedicated parishioner and past vestry member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She served on the Board of the former Derby-Shelton Girl Scout Council and was a lifelong member of the Connecticut Trails Girl Scouts. Joyce was also a Corporator of Griffin Hospital, Treasurer of the Griffin Hospital Auxiliary, and an active volunteer in the Development Office of Griffin Hospital. She was a member of the former Hewitt Tri-Facility Auxiliary and President of the Huntington Garden Club. She was the last living member of her Bridge Club, which was founded in the 1940s. Besides her bi-monthly Bridge games she enjoyed gardening, worldwide travel, sporting events, knitting, and needlepoint.
Joyce was the devoted mother of Lynn Miller and her husband, Thomas Sutnik of Southbury; Robin Miner and her husband Robert of New Canaan; and William M. Miller, Jr., and his wife, Stephanie, of Oxford. She was blessed with six cherished grandchildren: Ryan Miner and his wife Julianna, Brett Miner, Lauren Miner, William "Mason" Miller, III, Andrew Miller and his wife Jordan, and Alexander Miller. She is also survived by her cousin Carol F. Durrschmidt and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Thomas Hague, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edward and Marie Miller.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Her funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Shelton. Burial will follow at Lawn Cemetery East, Lane Street, Shelton. Contributions in Joyce's memory may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 182 Coram Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.
