Jurij Katreczko

KATRECZKO Jurij Katreczko, age 69, of the Huntington section of Shelton, died yesterday with the love and support of his family after a sixteenth month battle with pancreatic cancer. He spent his final weeks at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT. He was born in Kharkiw, Ukraine on November 28, 1939 to Mykola and Anna. Mr. Katreczko was relocated with his parents and brother to Germany during WWII, and at the age of 15 he enlisted in the British army. In 1958, his family immigrated to New Haven, Connecticut and shortly after he joined the United States Army and became stationed in Germany for 3 years. In 1963, he met his beloved wife, Nadia, and they eventually settled with their three children in Huntington. They shared a loving marriage for 44 years. He worked as a Toolmaker at Branson Ultrasonics in Danbury for the past 10 years.Mr. Katreczko was passionate about gardening, loved opera and Latin music, and enjoyed current events and political discussions. He loved traveling to Mexico, especially Puerto Vallarta, where he visited with his wife yearly. He leaves behind his wife Nadia, daughters Kristina and Svitlana, his son, Alexander, and three grandchildren Lev, Talia, and Nicholas; brother Valentyn Katreczko; his father in law Michael Pluszcz, and many brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews,. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford with panikhida service at 7 p.m. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 50 Fowler St., New Haven. Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery, South Boundbrook.
