Kenneth A Saunders Jr., 70, of Beacon Falls passed away peacefully on September 12, 2013 after a brave and stoic battle with cancer at the VITAS Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Frances (Gayda) Saunders.
Ken was born on May 1, 1943 to the late Kenneth and Evelyn (Klein) Saunders of Bridgeport. Ken was an avid New York Area sports fan and after retiring from Bristol Babcock he enjoyed spending time watching his favorite teams, most especially, the New York Yankees. He also continued pursuing his aviation, classic car, and history interests during retirement. His greatest pleasures though, were just spending time with his wife and doting on his grandchildren.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Frances of 49 years, son Kenneth and grandson Connor of Beacon Falls, son Michael, his wife Jennifer and granddaughter Olivia of Seymour, in addition to, his sister Gail Mirfin and husband Gary of Mount Laurel, New Jersey and his two nieces Tracy and Kelly. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughters Grace Evelyn and Claire Emily.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at 9:45am from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck to St. Michael Church, 25 Maple Avenue, Beacon Falls for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 5-7pm. Ken always considered himself to be a "jeans and sneakers type of guy" and he requested that all visitors dress casually.
