Leo Czajkowski Obituary

Leo E. Czajkowski
Leo E. Czajkowski, age 93, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Jean Grasso Czajkowski, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025 in the comfort of his home. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on August 14, 1932, he was a son of the late Leo P. and Aleksandra Kay Czajkowski. Leo graduated from St. Patrick's Grammar School in Bridgeport and went on to graduate from Fairfield Prep in 1951 before his service and honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee for the State of Connecticut, serving as a State Trooper for 22 years, 4 of which were as a Connecticut State Fire Marshal. In retirement, he enjoyed being a chauffeur for Archbishop William Lori, previously of the Diocese of Bridgeport, and for Archbishop Daniel Cronin of the Archdiocese of Hartford. A strong believer in Catholic education, Leo was the president of the HSA of Saint Catherine of Siena School and a longtime parishioner and usher at Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Trumbull. He was heavily involved as a volunteer in many local organizations, including the Knights of Columbus as past Grand Knight, the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation, where he was honored with a lifetime achievement award in 2019, and the Bridgeport Police Activities League, where he dressed up as Santa Claus for many Christmas celebrations. In addition to his cherished wife of 67 years, Jean, whom he called "Honeygirl", survivors include his three loving children: Mary Beth Nemergut and her husband Ed, James Czajkowski and his wife Claudia, and Jeanine Santilli and her husband Vincent, six adored grandchildren: Joseph, Mara, and Thomas Santilli, Anna Nemergut, and Aleksandra and James Czajkowski Jr., a brother, Paul Czajkowski, two uncles, Joseph Kay and Edward Kay, very dear extended family members, Diane Santilli and Kevin Aylward, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Czajkowski. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the home health aides who have lovingly provided Leo with compassionate care over the years: Jennifer, Barbara, Gillian, Kelly, Sonia, Tricia, Paula, Latoya, and Toria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. directly in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Road Trumbull. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery of Easton. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation, 601 Boston Post Rd # 2, Milford, CT 06460 or at https://www.ctburnsfoundation.org/. Arrangements are entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.abriola.com.

Theresa and I are sorry to have learned of the passing of "Uncle Leo". He certainly was was one of a kind! I will remember him for his uncanny wisdom, boisterous explanations of etiquette, donating his time to charity or good causes and his fierce debates on topics that were passionate to him. Picturing him now bringing his dedication to law and order to the other world he was so devoted to.
