Malcolm Garden Obituary

Malcolm B. "Mal" Garden of Burlington, CT, passed away on March 28, 2014 at his home. Mal was born to Ruth (Schutz) Garden and John (Jack) Garden on December 17, 1943 in Boston, MA. The eldest of the four children, they lived an adventurous childhood in Hanover, MA. Mal honorably served his country in Vietnam from 1965-1971 in the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, while "finding himself" in Boston, he met the love of his life, Lynn (Bloomquist) Garden, and spent the next 40 years creating something of which he was proud. Together they cruised and traveled most of the world, something he greatly enjoyed. His most treasured adventures were the cruise to Europe with his wife, his siblings and their spouses, and his adventure to Italy with his wife and grandson. Mal had a respected career as a postal clerk at the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years, where he also served as a union representative. He spent his free time researching his family genealogy, which he had traced back to the fourteenth century. Mal will always be remembered for doing it his way. Mal is survived by his wife Lynn and their two children, Melissa (Garden) Urrunaga, and her husband, Mike, of Kensington, CT and Chris Garden, of Burlington, CT and four grandchildren, Jameson, Jackson, Jacoby and AnnaLynn. He is also survived by his two sisters, Judy (Garden) Godbout and her husband, Robert, of Whitman, MA and Janet (Garden) Scott and her husband, William, of Hanson, MA, his sister in law, Elizabeth (Mason) Garden, of Tampa, Fl and many nieces and nephews, who will always remember all the "Uncle Mal" stories. Mal was predeceased by his brother, Gregory Garden, of Tampa, Fl. At Mal's request, there will be no services. Instead, there will be a celebration of his life at the family's home on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 2pm-6pm. For additional information, please contact the family at [email protected]. Donations can be made to Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center in Mal's name.

I will always remember that twinkle in his eyes, his dry, sarcastic wit, and the way he wrinkled his nose when he laughed. Greg, Mal and I had many great times which will never be forgotten. When he married Lynn, we continued to have alot of adventures, and were very close. The world will never be the same without Greg and Mal, and I miss them dearly. I was fortunate to have even known them. Love always, Elizabeth
