Maria Julia Teixeira Pedreira, age 89, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, after a long illness. Maria was born in Montalegre, Portugal to the late Francisco and Elisa Teixeira. Maria learned what family truly was and how to love unconditionally from her parents, brothers, and sisters. Those lessons of love and family values were carried with her throughout her life, and were truly seen with her husband, Antonio Goncalves Pedreira, who predeceased her. Maria taught those same precious values to her children. Maria worked for many years at Acme United Corporation. Sewing was one of her favorite things to do to pass the time. She was a faithful, devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bridgeport. Maria took great joy in being a proud member of their choir. She loved to cook and always put an abundance of love into everything she prepared for family and friends. Maria was pious and fulfilled the needs of the downtrodden whenever possible. Helping others was one of her greatest joys. She was elated to be promoted to grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she would be found doting on them whenever the opportunity presented itself. Along with the love she received from her parents, husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she was dearly loved by her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Maria was predeceased by her son, Manuel Pedreira, and two granddaughters, Amanda and Alexsis Escaleira. She is survived by her daughter, Palmira Escaleira and her husband Armando of Bridgeport, her daughter-in-law, Maria H. Pedreira (Manuel) of Bridgeport, her stepson, Antonio Martins Pedreira and his wife Gloria of Portugal, her grandchildren Krystle, Hugo, João, and Peter Pedreira, Monique Pedreira Rossi, and Michael Escaleira, as well as her great-grandchildren Tyler and Alexander Chambers, Alexsis Pedreira, and Arriana Sanderson. Maria had many cherished friends in her lifetime. Her family would like to extend thanks to her best friend, Maria Esteves, for her special, loving friendship of many years. They would also like to thank her dedicated care team, Nurse Jessica and Mary, CNA. A warm and grateful thanks is extended to the home hospice nurses, Helen and Gloria, for helping keep Maria comfortable and being compassionate in their care.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport with a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may attend a walkthrough visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport.
