Marie Schwarz Obituary

SCHWARZ Marie Valerie Schwarz, age 86, of Elgin, Ill., died on Monday at her home. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 8, 1917, the daughter of Dr. Joseph C. and Valerie (nee Dubb) Klauber. Mrs. Schwarz grew up in Staten Island, N.Y. She was a graduate of Columbia University School of Pharmacy. On July 11, 1940, she married Dr. William A. Schwarz. They resided in Staten Island until their retirement. Following retirement they moved to Southbury. Mrs. Schwarz was a founding member and first woman president of Temple Israel Reform Congregation in Staten Island. She was involved in numerous charitable organizations. She is survived by her beloved children: Benedict Schwarz and his wife, Andrea, of Elgin, Ill., and Valerie Neary and her husband, James, of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Angela Matijevic and her husband, Robert, of Elgin, Ill., William Neary and his wife, Dorie, of Fairfield, and David Neary and his wife, Kathy, of Shelton. Four great-grandchildren: Alexis, Nicholas, Ryan and Jack; her cousin, Fred Ungar of New York; several nieces and nephews; and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. William A. Schwarz in 1995; her brother, Dr. Leo Klauber; and her sister, Elayne McCullough. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport. Burial will follow in the Linden Hill Cemetery, Queens, N.Y. Visitation will be on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Larson Funeral Home, Bridgeport. Memorials may be made to: The Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 South Hager Avenue, Barrington, IL 60010, or to the Temple Israel Reform Congregation, 315 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302.
