Marion Meehan 93, passed away on Thursday August 14, 2014 at the Springfield Health & Rehab. Center. She was born December 27, 1920 in Kearney, New Jersey the daughter of Matthew and Goldie (Chefetz) Burns. She attended schools in New Jersey and New York, PS 98 and PS 52.
Her family relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut where she met her husband Frank G. Meehan who was a Navy Sailor. They were married on March 6, 1945 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Frank predeceased her on October 15, 2007. Marion lived most of her adult life in Stratford, Connecticut, moving to Vermont in 2013.
In her youth Marion worked as a waitress at the Liggetts's Drug Store, as a photo negative re-toucher, as a waitress at D.M. Reads Coffee Shop, and during WW II she was an Inventory Parts Control Monitor for General Electric. In later years she worked as a clerk at a maternity store and as a telephone sales person marketing for Howland's Department Store.
Marion was a fervent reader of the Connecticut Post, She loved posing for and looking at family photo's and preserving photo's and cards into albums. She had an extensive collection of clowns and clown and circus memorabilia. She loved sharing family history and spending holidays with her family were very special.
She is survived by two daughters - Janice Izzo and her husband Anthony of Springfield, Vt. and Susan L. Kelsey of Poughkeepsie, NY. Three grandchildren - Laura S. Kelsey-Megna and her husband Robert, John M. Kelsey and his wife Beth and Michael N. Kelsey. Three great grandchildren - Gabriel, Benjamin and Eliza. Also by a many nieces, nephews including a special niece and caregiver Marion "Snuggie" LeCardo and her husband John.
She was predeceased by her brother Matthew A. Burns, and her sister Selma J. Callahan and her son-in-law Norman Kelsey.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 30, 2014 at the State Veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown, Connecticut.
