Longtime Guymon resident, Marjie Lobit, passed away peacefully in her home, Thursday, September 5, 2024 surrounded by her loving family and caregivers at the amazing age of 100 years old.
Marjie Faye McGinnis Lobit was born April 22, 1924 to Faye and R.J. McGinnis in El Reno, Okla. She attended school there and graduated El Reno High School with the Class of 1942. She was employed by the Midwest City Douglas Aircraft Plant as a Secretary during their production of C-47s for WWII. She had many lifelong friends during this era and was introduced to her future husband, Edgar Lobit, Jr., an Army Cavalryman from Texas stationed at Ft. Reno, OK, by these same friends.
Marjie and Ed were married Dec. 12, 1944 and he was shipped off to war shortly thereafter. Ed returned home after the end of WWIl and they moved to Okla City. Ed worked for Armour & Co and Marjie continued to do secretarial work. It was during this time that their collective interest in photography began to grow.
Armour & Co. relocated them to Duncan, OK where their son, Jay, was born. And then they were moved back to Oklahoma City where their son, Randy, and daughter, Betty were born. In 1958 they were relocated to Guymon, Oklahoma.
By then they knew they wanted to shift their lives to become Professional Photographers for the Oklahoma Panhandle and beyond. They enjoyed many years of serving the area by providing quality photos of every imaginable style: portraits, weddings, events of all kinds, commercial, restorations, livestock and school activities.
They were heavily involved in Professional Photographers of America and its regional and state affiliates, as well as international photographic associations. Marjie and Ed each earned their Master of Photography, Photographic Craftsman Degrees, the highest degree of merit in professional photography. They enjoyed traveling throughout the world on photographic journeys and have quite a collection to show for their travels.
As a young woman in Guymon, Marjie enjoyed leading her little Cub Scouts, was a member of several Ceramic Clubs, Entre Nous Club, Eastern Star and a proud Rotarian wife. She and Ed were active in the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a charter member of the church's Bell Choir and enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir. Upon her retirement, she started sewing again and began quilting. She was a member of Panhandle Piecers and Timeless Treasures Quilt Clubs. She has shared her many beautiful quilts with her family throughout the years. She continued to sew well past her 100th birthday.
Marjie Lobit is survived by her 3 children: Jay Lobit of Northridge, CA, Randy Lobit of Tucson, AZ, and Betty Lobit Biasotti and husband Peter of Sleepy Hollow, IL. 6 grandchildren: Athena Lobit Hofmann and husband Paul, Alyssa Lobit, Alana Lobit Vormehr and husband Nate all of Los Angeles, CA, Bryant Biasotti and wife Megan of LaGrange Park, IL, Bradley Biasotti and wife Vero of Gilberts, IL and Brennan Biasotti and wife Johanna of Chicago, IL. 10 great grandchildren: Louis, John, Melanie & Peter Biasotti; Brixton, Bijoux & Bastien Vormehr; Kingsley & Kohda Hofmann and Arturo Biasotti. She is also survived by her beloved little sister, Janell Savage of Enid, OK and a Large Loving Family of 3 generations of nephews and nieces.
Her family would like to thank her many caregivers and helpers throughout the years, especially her latest group of loving women who diligently cared for her until the very end: Summer Martinez, Aggie Zakrzewicz, Tammy Ganci, Charlotte Zamora, Letty O'Campo and Tatum Curtis.
Marjie was a kind, intelligent, perfectionist who worked very hard to see that her family was provided for properly. She always strived to do every job right and to literally put her best foot forward. She had a sparkling smile which complimented Ed's wonderful laugh so well. And as the years took a toll on her body, her smile and her bright, glistening eyes continued to shine, especially if the camera was aimed in her direction. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched: "there must be thousands of them"
Memorial Donations in Marjie's honor may be given to Meals on Wheels, a program she relied on for several years, and will be accepted by the funeral home.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00pm, Friday, September 20, 2024 at Henson-Novak Funeral Home in Guymon.
