Mary Eckert Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Eckert
Apr. 14, 1943 - Nov. 17, 2018
Mary Elizabeth Eckert, age 75, of Stratford, beloved wife of John W. Eckert, passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, November 17, 2018. Mary Beth was born in Bethlehem, PA to the late Joseph Monaghan and Ann Gibbons and graduated from Bethlehem High School before moving to Connecticut with her family. She then worked as a Secretary for General Electric before getting married and leaving work to raise her children full-time. Mary Beth was an avid volunteer, for years driving patients for the American Cancer Society and collecting food for the Sterling House Food Pantry. She was also a fixture at the Boothe Memorial Park Rose Garden and worked tirelessly for years to help restore it to its current state. Mary Beth loved college basketball and never missed a chance to root for the UConn Men and Women Huskies. Mary Beth is survived by her beloved husband John Eckert; her siblings Kathy Pepin-Donat and husband John, Bernadette Monaghan, Mike Hutter and wife Bernadette, and Vince Hutter and wife Beth; also her four children Eileen Eckert and husband Chris, Kathy Miner and husband Matt, John Eckert and wife Susan, and Joe Eckert and wife Lauren; also six grandchildren, Michael, Shannon, Luke, Emma, Julianne and David and four great-grandchildren, Darcy, Clare, David and Katherine in addition to her countless family, friends and people whose lives she touched with her kind nature and generosity. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Friends may visit with the family before mass time from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to Sterling House Community Center Food Pantry. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mrs. Eckert as I always called her. I had just found out today on Christmas that she passed. She was a wonderful person to know and she will be greatly missed by all of us who her knew her. Too many memories to post. But she will always hold a special place in my heart.

So very sorry to hear of Mary Beth's passing. I worked with her at Porter and Chester Institute many years ago and also knew her from St. Mark's Church. Gerri Szabo
