Mary L. Ference, age 90, wife of the late Francis E. Ference, died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at The Carolton Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield. A lifelong resident of Southport, Mary was an AKC breeder of Toy Poodles. In her spare time she liked to knit and crochet, and was also an avid reader and gardener. Mary will be remembered as a very kind and loving woman. She will be sadly missed by her children, Hank Ference and his wife Joann of Fairfield, Emily F. Marzulla of Southport, Susan M. Prager and her husband Stan of East Longmeadow, MA and Thomas F. Ference and his wife Leonor of Fairfield. She is also survived by her brother, Michael "Buddy" Sewick of Randolph, NH and grandchildren Patrick, Brendan and Jillian Ference and Sara and Jack Prager. Mary was also predeceased by son Timothy John Ference, brother Jack Laur, sister Anne Laur and son in law Joseph Marzulla, Jr. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 10 am in the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road, followed by committal services in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday morning between 9 and 10 o'clock.
