Mary (Monahan) Passeri
Mary Passeri, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021. The daughter of Florence Morrison and William Monahan, she was predeceased by the love of her life and beloved husband of 37 years, Mario Passeri of Greenwich, CT and Charlottesville, VA. She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Sarah Lovrin and Irene Diana Martin. A most devoted mother, she is survived by to her two daughters, Kathleen Renna of Newtown (Marc), and Karen Polito of Milford (Vin) and by her grandchildren Nick Polito (Kayla), Mariale Renna and Steven Polito.
She raised her children and the family German Shepherd, Canio, in Rye Brook, NY and then Greenwich, CT. She was a longtime member of the Rye Methodist Church, and belonged to the Methodist Women's Club where she enjoyed running several charitable events. She and her husband enjoyed performances at the metropolitan opera house and traveling with their children. One of her favorite memories was traveling aboard the Andrea Doria, one of many transatlantic crossings to Europe. She enjoyed entertaining and caring for friends and family, always ready to impart her extensive knowledge of health and nutrition.
She retired with her husband to Charlottesville VA to build their 133 acre farm, Elisio, where they raised Black Angus breeding stock and looked after her farm dog Rags. Eventually returning to CT, she settled in Huntington, where she had many friends and wonderful neighbors, and was close by for visits from children and grandchildren for 26 years.
She was cherished by all her family and will be remembered for her gentle kindness, generosity, loving devotion and great cooking. She was the very best mother and grandmother – there could be none better.
A private family burial is planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT.
