Mary Upton was kind beyond belief to so many of us who attended Harvard Law School in the late 1970's. She humanized the three years of law school for us and always made time to listen to our problems, concerns and dreams. She will be sorely missed, but remembered with much fondness and gratitude.
With sympathy to her family and friends,

Mary was a wonderful inspiration for the HLS Class of 1980, and we will miss her dearly.

We loved Mary. As members of the "Somerville Bar Review" at Harvard Law School, we got to know Mary during our first year of Law School and she was a pal during our entire three years. (She was even voted "SBR Prom Queen" one year!) She was fun-loving, enjoyed law students who created a little mischeif, and was a central reason that our experiences at Harvard Law school were so positive. (By the way, one of the SBR members in our group, Mark Warner, went on to become Governor of Virginia and is now considering a run for President. He -- like all of us -- was a great fan of Mary's. There are pictures in the Law School yearbook circa 1978-80 that prominently feautre Mary, Warner and the rest of us in the SBR group photos ). We will miss Mary. She was a very special person.
Ken Gormley, Professor, Duquesne University School of Law (on behalf of the Somerville Bar Review).
