Michael Jankura Obituary

Michael Jankura, Jr.
WASHINGTON, VT– Michael Jankura Jr., 78, of Washington, VT, passed away on January 11, 2024, at his home. He was born in Bridgeport, CT, to Michael Jankura and Ethel Kotrady Jankura. Michael graduated from Bunnell High School and went on to serve his country.
He was a decorated Navy veteran who received a Purple Heart, a National Defense Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, 3 Bronze Stars and the Marine Commendation Medal. He was also the radio operator on the USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63). Michael was also the Superintendent of Vista Towers in Stamford, CT, for many years and proudly helped build the Sikorsky Memorial Bridge in Stratford, CT.
Michael was known as a generous, loyal, and loving man who would lend a hand to anyone and give the best advice. He loved adventures on his motorcycles, especially with his wife, Tami. They even went as far as Alaska together. He loved the snow and loved Vermont. He even owned a bar restaurant on Lake Eden before settling in Washington, VT, where he built his home from the ground up. He was truly a jack of all trades and will be terribly missed by his beloved wife, Tami, and stepdaughter, Danielle Larregui. Michael is survived by his children, Michael March and Sofia Kurban, along with grandchildren, brother, Richard Jankura (Jackie), sisters, Carole Kaputa (Frank) and Natalie Pronechen, and many nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life will be held for Michael on July 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the VT Veterans Memorial Cemetery - 487 Furnace Road, Randolph, VT, 05061. Donations can be made to help with expenses at P.O. Box 34, Washington, VT 05675. Arrangements are in the care of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St. in Barre. I met Mike in Eli Whitney School in 1st grade. We were instant buddies, exploring his woods and Wooster Park near my house, long before anyone called it a Park. As we got older we did what boys do, and then some. After graduation, we parted and went our separate ways until we met again at our Bunnell High School 50th Reunion where I met his wife Tami. We enjoyed rekindling our friendship and actually visited Mike and Tami in Vermont on a vacation for a short period of time.
Mike followed his dreams and was a hero to this country for sure. RIP or have FUN! Till we meet up again Don Grosner (Kathy) Ocala, FL

I met Michael J in 72 at Frank's American on Stratford Ave. I was 16 on a new job pumping gas. He was larger than life , skinny as a rail, ranting , laughing , holding court and his beautiful smile saying it all. God bless....
Roll on friend.
