Michael Kean Obituary
Sister Michael Mary Kean, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died on May 9, 2017, at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT, at age 77. Dorothy was born on January 26, 1940, in Boston, MA, the daughter of Michael Francis Kean and Margaret Glynn, who married in Galway, Ireland. They had eight children – four girls and four boys. Dorothy and Barbara were twins.
After pronouncing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1959, Michael Mary began teaching in schools in New York: St. Brigid School in Westbury; St. Lawrence, Sayville; and St. Saviour, Brooklyn. From 1972-1978, she studied nursing in Methodist Hospital, NY and Peter Bent Brigham Nursing School, MA. The following years were spent in Wilton, CT at Villa Notre Dame and Lourdes Health Care Center as nurse, therapist, receptionist, and volunteer. Sister moved to Lourdes Health Care Center in 2011.
Sister Michael Mary was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. She is mourned by her sister, Margaret Eugene of Winchester, MA, many nieces, nephews, and friends, and by her community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
Friends may call at Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road in Wilton, CT, on Thursday, May 11, 2017, from 3 p.m.–7 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, in the Chapel of Villa Notre Dame. Burial will follow at a later time.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bracken-Donovan-Spodnick Funeral Home of Bridgeport, CT.
Memorial contributions may be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Atlantic-Midwest Province c/o Development Office, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton, CT 06897

I was watching a video of Mr Rodgers and he said to take 10 seconds and think of people that cared for you or infleurnced you. I thought of Sr Michael Mary my 7th grade teacher at St Saviors Elementary school in Brooklyn NY. I googled her today Jan 1st 2024 and found her obituary. I am sad I hadnt contacted her sooner. She was very special and believed in me as a kid. Looking forard tovreunitingvwith her on the other side.

I hope Sister Michael Mary actually rode the motorcycle(shown in "Gallery") because to any Saint Lawrence student, she was all that.

Sister Michael Mary was one of my teachers at St. Lawrence The Martyr in Sayville Long Island where I attended from 1965 to 1973. Sister, you left a lasting impression on many of us. As I share your obit, many of my former classmates recall you quite fondly. You are sadly missed.

Dearest friend, I taught with you two brief years at Sayville, LI and remember how your students loved you and how you loved them. I was in awe at your sense of humor and great artistic ability. I feel blessed to reconnect with you a little over a year ago and enjoyed your daily humorous internet postings.. You bounced back full of hope after each hospitalization and I guess I thought you would live forever. I will never forget you. I am sure you will keep them laughing in heaven!
