Michael Lawrence Shapiro, husband, father, brother and friend, passed away in Hyannis, MA on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the age of 71. Born to Morris and Carolyn Shapiro on June 27, 1950 in Stamford, CT, Michael grew up in Fairfield, CT. He graduated from Andrew Warde High School in 1968, went on to study History at the University of Buffalo and received his law degree from the University of Connecticut. He married Karen Shelley Shapiro (née Iliff) on May 26, 1979 and resided in Fairfield, CT with their children, until retiring to Brewster, MA in 2016. Michael was a member of the Scargo Poetry Group. His poem, "Winter Roads," was published in From The Farther Shore: Cape Cod & the Islands Through Poetry in 2021. He expressed his love as a father and grandfather through his passion for cooking, writing poetry, and his enthusiasm for the New York Mets and Giants. Michael Shapiro is survived by Shelley Shapiro, his son Stephen Shapiro and his two children, Benjamin and Sophia, of Easton, CT, his daughter Elizabeth Shapiro and her husband Dane Scozzari of Brooklyn, NY, and his brother, Neil Shapiro along with his wife Rhonda Imhoff of Boise, ID. Memorial services are to be announced at a later date, but donations can be sent to The Culture Center of Cape Cod in lieu of flowers.
