Miguel Jose Martins, age 58 of Bridgeport beloved husband of Maria "Nela" Martins, entered into eternal rest on May 17, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Miguel was born on August 23, 1957 in Sao Nicolau, Cabo Verde Islands to Jose Martins and late Ines Cruz. Miguel left Cabo Verde in 1977 for Portugal and later migrated to Bridgeport, CT in 1978, where he worked as a welder at Alloy Engineering for 34 years. He was a member of the Cape Verdean Association Club where he enjoyed playing cards and watching his favorite soccer team Benfica with his friends. He also enjoyed playing the lottery. Miguel enjoyed spending time with his wife of 35 years along with his family and friends. Miguel was a loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Jose Martins and stepmother, Ana, his two daughters; Luisa Martins and Mona Lisa Araujo and husband Joao, his six grandchildren; Demani, Davina, Alisha, Da'nique, Aliyah and Alianah, his siblings; Olimpia Brito (Joao), Antonio Martins (Zilma), Maria Evora (Alcides) and Margarida Pires (Andre) and siblings at heart; Margarida Ramos, Arcangela Zeco, Maria Do Carmo Gomes, Herculano Dos Santos, Maria DaLuz Dos Santos, Luis Dos Santos and Ana Ramalho, and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 8:30 AM in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport and at 9:30 AM DIRECTLY in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport with a Mass of the Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Pilgrimage Mausoleum, Bridgeport.
