Monica Kearse Obituary
Monica Joyce Kearse, beloved fiancée, mother, daughter, and sister, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family in Columbia, SC. Born in Bridgeport, CT on October 1, 1957, she was a daughter of the late Thounsa Kearse Sr. and Eliza C. Kendrick Kearse. Monica loved working and serving the military personnel at Fort Jackson Army Base in Columbia, SC. She was a selfless, compassionate, adventurous woman who loved to have fun, and travel. In addition to Monica's predeceased parents, brother Thounsa Jr., sister Reese, and son Zachariah, she leaves to cherish her memories a fiancée Manuel Shabazz of Columbia, SC, a son Lemar Kearse of Bridgeport, a daughter, Monica Bright, of Stratford, a daughter Joyce Shabazz of Columbia, SC., four sisters Thomsena (Leonard, Sr.) Cohen of Bridgeport, Irene (Henry, Sr.) Kelly of Stratford, Katrina Snowden of Bridgeport, Eliza (James, Jr.) Westberry of E. Hartford, and a sister-in-law Brenda Kearse, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016, 11:00am at Refuge Temple Church of God, 3050 Main St., Bridgeport, CT. Friends are invited to the viewing Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the church. See www.mortonsmortuary.com.

To the Kearse family, I offer you my sincerest condolences in the loss of Monica. Our families were very close and it's difficult to know the family is suffering right now, but I hope the Lord will ease their suffering with their memories and the realization that Monica is now in a better place. I remember visiting the family many times growing up in Bridgeport and a member or two of the family taking piano lessons from my mother, Odessa Balkcom. My heart goes out to the Kearse family. Prayers, hugs and condolences during this difficult time.
