Rick was a 1972 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School and attended college at Saint Leo's in Tampa, Florida. He was a lifelong resident of Fairfield, worked 43 years for the Town Public Works Department and was an active Union Steward.
Rick had a passion for politics on local state and federal levels and always kept up on current events, especially in the town of Fairfield. He was a past member of the Fairfield Democratic Town Committee.
Rick loved his Irish heritage. Rick took pride in volunteering at the Gaelic American (Irish) Club. Rick was a lifelong member of the Irish Club in Fairfield and spent many Friday and Sunday nights greeting guests at the sign-in desk. Rick was an original member of their pipe band playing the bass drum at many festivals and marching in countless Memorial Day and Saint Patrick's Day parades, even marching in the New York City Saint Patrick's Day Parade. Rick took a memorable family trip to Ireland to celebrate a cousin's wedding, tour the countryside and to visit Irish relatives living there.
His favorite past time was sports. For decades, Rick was an involved coach for Pop Warner Football and a volunteer coach for the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club. Rick's favorite teams were the Miami Dolphins since the 1970s, the Detroit Tigers and especially UCONN men's and women's basketball teams. Rick was a former season ticket holder for the Jets. Rick knew all the stats and was always a leader in the pro football pool at the Irish Club.
Rick had a gentle spirit and loved to be at every Carroll/Reidy event whether it be a party, birthday holiday or anything for his nieces as he adored to be their Uncle Rick. He Face Timed frequently with Gabriel and Leo to stay connected to them. He loved going to the diner with Sheila Mary and Bev on weekends and was never seen without a baseball cap with one of his favorite teams' logos.
Two years ago Rick adopted his first dog, Juggy, who brought him joy, laughter and companionship everyday
Rick was kind and caring and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The Reidy family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at the ICU at Bridgeport Hospital for their warm compassionate care of Rick during his illness.
The family most especially wants to thank Casey and Eileen Flynn who, for the past two years, became close friends with Rick enjoying meals, conversations, and sports together. They also took great care of Juggy while Rick was sick.
