Richard Schaer Obituary

SCHAER Richard J. Schaer, 80, of Shelton, beloved husband of Shirley Brown Schaer passed away at his home with his family and his beloved cat by his side on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Richard was born in Bridgeport on December 25, 1930, son of the late George and Florence Seeley Schaer. He was a Marine Corps Veteran who served in the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked at Avco Lycoming for 35 years until his retirement and loved fishing. Beside his wife Shirley, Richard also leaves behind his children, Ralph Staffieri of Wallingford, Josette Mueller of Derby, Nancy Bush of Seymour, Robin Staffier of Derby , Joey Staffier of Derby, Elizabeth McGowen of Michigan, Lisa Martin of Shelton, Sonny Staffier of Fairfield, Richard(Poncho) Schaer of Shelton and Ricky Schaer Jr. of Beacon Falls. He also is survived by 20 grandchildren, especially his devoted granddaughter Star Marie Schaer and 19 great grandchildren. Brother of George Schaer, Jean Haight and the late Robert Schaer. Richard was an incredible, one of a kind man. The true measure of a man is measured by the lives he touched. "Forever in our hearts, we love you dad". A graveside service will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Shelton. There will be no calling hours. All State Cremation & Funeral Care, 47 Washington Avenue, Seymour, are in care of all arrangements.

I too have fond memories of Uncle Dick as he was always at either our house or Grandma Schaer's house and usually had Lisa tagging along.
