Richard Solaz Obituary

Richard Raymond Solaz
Richard R. Solaz, 90, of Trumbull passed into eternal rest at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020. Born in Bridgeport CT on November 22, 1930, Richard was the son of Thomas and Emma Solaz. He was the loving husband to his late wife of 60 years, Jackie (Doucette) Solaz. Richard was predeceased by his older brother Robert Solaz. Richard is survived by his son David Solaz and his wife; Ann Marie Solaz of Southbury and their two children, Gregory Solaz and Kristin Solaz Massimo; his son Daniel Solaz and his wife Mary Jean Basileo of Trumbull and their two children, Spencer Solaz and Carson Solaz. Richard attended Central High School in Bridgeport where he was a standout quarterback on the football team.
After graduating high school, like his father, brother and other members of the Solaz family, he pursued the family business and went on to become a master sheet metal mechanic. He was a lifelong member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Unions 39 and 38 until his retirement. His career included such major projects as Bridgeport and Yale Hospitals, and Union Carbide in Danbury Connecticut and were just a few of the major projects in which Richard applied his craft. Richard enlisted and served honorably in the United States Army at the 38th parallel during the Korean Conflict where he was a combat demolition and construction specialist. He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant and was awarded the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars before returning to civilian life after the armistice.
He loved spending time with his family and was a fixture at the countless sporting events of his children and grandchildren throughout their lifetimes. Richard was a jack of all trades who had a tool for every occasion. He loved the outdoors and kept himself occupied with the simple pleasures of an immaculate yard that he maintained up to his last day on earth. Richard truly was the family patriarch always willing to listen and provide advice to the entire family. He enjoyed a lifetime lending a hand to his two sons who will miss him dearly.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
