Robert R. Fletcher, died on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. He was 88 years old. He leaves Dorothy Rolleri Fletcher, of Shelton, his beloved wife and dance partner of 65 years.
Bob was born in Bridgeport on November 21, 1926, son of William and Marguerite (Neville) Fletcher. He resided in Shelton for over 55 years. He owned and operated Joe's Garage and Fletcher's Gas Station, in Bridgeport, for over 40 years. Robert was a very proud WWII US Navy Veteran and served on the USS Dennis. He fought in the Pacific in the largest sea battle of WWII, the Battle of the Leyte Gulf. He was also a member of VFW #306 in Huntington. Bob was an accomplished, self-taught, musician and played the stand-up bass. His first band was the Surf Siders. He played in many other bands as well as the Dixieland Jazz Band, The Bourbon Street Seven. In 1981 he and the Bourbon Street
Seven had the honor of playing at the inaugural celebration of President Ronald Reagan at the White House.
He is the beloved father and father in-law of Gary and Nancy Fletcher of Colorado, Paul and Christina Fletcher of Sweden, Lori Fletcher and Edward Corley of NH, and Lisa and Peter Vaccaro of Oxford. He is the cherished grandfather of Ryan, Christopher, Robin, and Rebecca Fletcher, Ian, Jesse, and Megan Boyd, and Kyle Johnson. He also leaves two adoring great granddaughters Olivia, and Lyla, and also leaves several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother Walter Fletcher, and two sisters Joyce D' Addario, and Peggy Eisenman.
Friends may greet his family on Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. On Tuesday his procession will leave the funeral home at 10:45 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Lawrence Church, Shelton.
