Robert S. Katz, age 80 of Monroe, formerly of Trumbull, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones on Thursday June 8, 2017, after a long courageous battle. Bob never lost his sense of humor or his concern for others who he met on his journey and helped care for him. Throughout his life, Bob was a kind hearted man, always willing to help others.
Bob was born in Waterbury, CT, a son of the late Abraham and Gertrude Katz. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Donna Katz and his devoted stepson Donald Beach III, his brothers in law Robert Fischer and his longtime partner Barbara of Wellington, FL, Alan Fischer and his wife Gabriele of Madison, CT, his good friend David Petric, his two sisters, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Katz has owned and operated Katz Real Estate in Trumbull and Bridgeport for over 40 years. He attended the University of Bridgeport, and was a graduate of the Lee Institute. He was active in politics and civic affairs most of his life, directing and hosting the Goldwater, Nixon-Agnew, and Ronald Reagan campaigns in Bridgeport. He was a 1980 delegate to the National Convention for Ronald Reagan, a justice of the peace, a district leader in Bridgeport's South End for 15 years, a member of the Republican Town Committee, and a representative on the State Central Committee. In the 1970's, Mr. Katz was manager of the municipal parking authority in Bridgeport. He was given the Connecticut JC's achievement award, and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He served in the US Army Third Division where he was stationed in Germany, and he was a lifetime member of the NRA.
His family would like to give a special thank you to his many care givers for their hard work and thoughtfulness, especially Maribel Rivera, and for the wonderful care he received at the West Haven VA Hospital's Oncology Department.
A private graveside service was held on Friday, June 9, 2017 as per Bob's wishes. Shiva will be observed at the Katz residence in Monroe, on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. and Monday from 4-6 p.m. Kaddish will be recited at Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Bridgeport. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to St. Jude's Research Hospital, Shriner's Children's Hospital, or to a charity of one's choice.
