Robert Ward Obituary

WARD Robert Daniel "Scoop@ Ward, age 81, beloved husband for 61 years of Edna (Corris) Ward of Stratford, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at his home with his loving family at his side. Mr. Ward was born in Bridgeport, March 25, 1924, son of the late George and Elvira (Bjork) Ward. He was raised and lived in Stratford all his life, and was a retired plumber with the Plumbers & Pipe fitters Union Local 777. Bob was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the submarine service in the Pacific. Having left school to join the Navy and he was awarded his Stratford High School diploma this past Fatheres Day. He loved to play golf, but was unable in recent years. He made his first "hole in one@ when he was 12 years old at Mill River Country Club. He was an avid fan of the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox and he attended many games while visiting his daughter in Boston. Bob was a member of the First Congregational Church, Stratford, the VFW Post 9460, Stratford and Trident Chapter Submarine Veterans Association. Being unselfish with his time, he shared his experience, strength and hope with others for more than 31 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, David R. Ward of Stratford; three daughters, Cheryl Yanosy and her husband, Nicholas, of Huntington, Sue Anne Maraventano and her husband, Vincent, of Boston, and Christine Kudravy and her husband, John, of Stratford; six grandchildren, Sarah Sreedhar and her partner, Anita , Matthew Yanosy and his wife, Carolina, Mary Elizabeth, Jane Margaret, and Thomas John Kudravy and John Robert Maraventano; a great-grandson, Jonah Sreedhar; two cousins, Jean Havens and Earl Wilkinson; two nephews, Richard Marsh and William Voitk; and a niece, Karen Voitk Lent. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Jane Elizabeth; one brother, George Ward; two sisters, Vera Voitk and Lillie Marsh. Friends May call Friday August 5, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford. Friends are invited to attend his funeral on Saturday, August 6, at 11 a.m. by meeting directly at the First Congregational Church, 2301 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be in Putney Cemetery, Main Street, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to First Congregational Church, 2301 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615 or the Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108.
