Rose Friedman Obituary

Rose Belinkie Friedman
Rose Belinkie Friedman of Fairfield passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 31 2017, shortly before her 101st birthday. She was born in Bridgeport, one of six children to Rebecca and Henry Belinkie. "Rosie" was a Teacher, Guidance Counselor and College Board Administrator at Bassick High School for 30 years. She treated her students like family, helping them to excel far beyond the classroom.
She was a past President of the Women's Federation Group and the National Council of Jewish Women, Vice President of the Greater Bridgeport Historical Society, and a volunteer at the Jewish Home for the Elderly for over 20 years.
Rosie was an ardent tennis player, playing doubles well into her 70s and watching as many matches as possible on the Sports Channel. She also enjoyed watching UCONN Basketball and spending time at Penfield Pavilion.
Rosie's greatest joy was her family. She loved attending the athletic and musical events of her four grandchildren, and she was very proud of all of their accomplishments.
Rosie is survived by her loving daughter, Holly Friedman Housman and her husband Charles of Newton MA; loving daughter Mady Friedman-Gerrity and her husband Tom of Lordship; four adored grandchildren, Jessica Gerrity Marraffa (husband Jesse), Nicholas Gerrity, Rebecca Housman, and Ben Housman; and two precious great-grandchildren, Rose Marraffa and Myles Marraffa; sister-in-law Hilda Belinkie; and many extraordinary nieces and nephews.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Norman ("Buddy") Friedman and siblings Milton Belinkie, Edith Rothenberg, Ida Uscher, Sophie Weinberger, and Alfred Belinkie.
Family and Friends are invited to attend her funeral on Sunday, June 4, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT, with interment following at Rodeph Sholom Cemetery, 190 Kings Highway East, Fairfield, CT.

Dear Holly and Mady
I was sorry to learn of Mom's passing. I remember both of your parents well and their friendship with my parents, now many years ago. Rose did well to live so many years and have the joy of grand children and great grandchildren. I hope your many cherished memories of her will help guide you through your loss.
