Rose Marks Obituary

Marks, Rose E.
Rose E. Marks, beloved mother of Edward J. Stamper (Bridgeport) and Rosemarie Clune (Washington, DC), died at the age of 94, September 21 at St Vincent's Hospital. Rose was a long time resident of Fairfield and well known to customers at D. M. Read's, Fairfield Department Store and l'Etoile in Westport, CT. With her ready smile, quick wit and generosity, she was everyone's favorite. When not working, she was always in the kitchen, cooking and baking and continued to do so until her death. It was impossible to visit her without being offered a treat! The family recently discovered her secret crush on Jacques Pepin, one of her favorite websites on "Google".
She loved her family unconditionally and each of her 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren have stories of her kindness and affection to tell. She also has 2 great great grandchildren. At the age of 88, she won a million dollars in the Connecticut Lottery and enjoyed becoming a star on the Today Show. She took the entire adventure in her stride, and when she was asked what she was going to do with the money she replied 'I am going home and give it to my family'. And she did!
Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday at 10:00 am at the Assumption Church Fairfield. Burial will be in Mt. Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. Friends may call on Wednesday at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport from 4 to 7 pm.

Rose was a wonderful lady. When I was in town I would try to make a point to call her and make dinner plans with her. I am a much better person for knowing her. She had wonderful stories to tell and a amazing personality. May you rest in peace.

Rose was a great lady. We could all learn from her. Once she found my camera at a wedding once and got it back to me. Thanks Rose! A million dollar lady.

Rose was my "boss" at the Fairfield Store for many years. She was the sweetest, kindest, and most fun person to be with. We shared many wonderful times together, and, I will miss her more than I can say. A bright light has gone out in this world. My sincere condolences to all your family.

I also worked with Rose in the Fairfield Store back in the early 70s. We had so much fun gabbing while folding tons of nightgowns! Sometimes on a Friday, we would go out to lunch or dinner together. I have thought about Rose many times. She was a wonderful person.
