Rose McCormack Obituary

McCormack, Sister Rose
Sister Rose McCormack died suddenly on November 17th, 2015 at St. Vincent's Hospital. She was the third of ten children born to James and Catherine (Farelly) McCormack. Sister Rose graduated from Ballycomoyle National School in Ireland and then journeyed to America in 1957. Settling in Bronx, New York, Sister Rose was employed for several years by the New York Telephone Company. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth on January 7, 1962. Sister Rose's first assignments took her to St. Christopher Children's Home, Sea Cliff, NY and Little Flower Institute, Wading River, NY where she ministered to foster children. In 1967, Sister Rose studied cooking and for the next 40 years prepared delicious meals for her sisters in convents in Worcester, Massachusetts, Brooklyn, New York and Monroe, Connecticut. Sister was known for her delicious babki and Portuguese bread: both always in demand at the yearly Lawn Festival held on the grounds of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent at Monroe, CT. Sister retired from the kitchen in 2007 and became the receptionist at Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent. Sister is survived by her brother Michael McCormack, her sisters Mary Gagen, Kathleen Doran, Margaret Geoghegan, Bridget Noonan and Patricia Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 21st, 2015 at 9am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will take place Friday from 2-5pm at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent. Online condolences may be made at www.spadaccinofuneralhome.com

My very special friend, Sister Rose.
It was a privilege to love her. When I volunteered at the convent she always greeted me with her beautiful smile and walked me to the door upon my departure, wishing me well and reminding me that she and God loved me.
Sister Rose you will always be with me. You were truly the sunshine in my life. Your Irish eyes were always smiling. Rest in peace, dear one.
My deepest condolences to all the Sisters and to Sister Rose's family.

I met wonderful Sister Rose by buying her wonderful babki (Polish Sweet Bread). We looked forward to the annual Lawn Festival over the years. She was a lovely, kind and gentle person. She served her God, her sisters and the community. She will be remembered for her bright smile and gentle ways.
