Roy Charles Weaver, Sr.
Feb. 4, 1928 - Aug. 27, 2018Roy Charles Weaver, Sr., age 90, of Ansonia entered into rest on Monday August 27, 2018 at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the beloved husband of 69 years to Geraldine (Noble) Weaver. He was born in Trumbull on February 4, 1928, the son of William P. and Lillian May (Hughes) Weaver. Roy followed his two older brothers into the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving aboard the USS Roosevelt CV 42 (FDR). After his service, he worked as a machinist for AVCO Lycoming until leaving to work with his brother-in-law Dick Chapman at Chapman's Texaco in Bridgeport as a mechanic. He joined the U.S. Post Office in 1971, eventually becoming a supervisor in the Main Street Stratford office. Upon retirement, Roy and Gerry moved to Venus, FL, where he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, Shuffle Board, maintaining his home and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 159 in Venus, FL and Post 24 in Derby. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Football Giants. Roy had many friends but his best friend was his German Shepherd Kurt. Our thanks and appreciation for the compassionate care by the staff at Griffin Hospital. He is survived by his son Roy C. (Randy) Weaver, Jr. and his wife Donna, his daughter Wendy Lee Bednarsky and her husband Ted, and his grandchildren Michael V. Weaver and his wife Desiree, David C. Weaver and his wife Laura and Daniel Bednarsky and his wife Carey, along with a great grandson Joseph Bednarsky. Roy was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth Weaver and Robert Weaver and his wife Dorothy, and his sisters Dorothy Holmes and her husband Walter, June Chapman and her husband Richard, and Barbara Mayernik and her husband John. Friends are invited to greet Roy's family on Thursday, August 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street Derby. On Friday his funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
