Russell Clapp Obituary

CLAPP Russell Adams Clapp III, age 84, of Southport and Delray Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, August 30, 2005. Born in White Plains, N.Y., the son of Russell Jr. and Jean V. Clapp, he was former chairman of Dust Control Corporation and an early pioneer in controlling environmental pollutants. Beloved husband of the late Nancy Ferris Clapp and father of Pamela Hatfield, Douglas Clapp and Catherine Read, he was also a loving grandfather to Geoffrey Read and Adam Clapp. A graduate of Yale University, "Bud" was a loyal fan and supporter of the University, with a lifetime interest in the football season. Serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he continued his community service through participation in the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting, the Park Commission and other civic organizations. A "Celebration of Life" reception will be held at the Country Club of Fairfield on Saturday, September 10, 2005, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be sent to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Office of Development, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508-1849. The Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
