I met Stephen about 35 years ago through Mayor Mary Moran´s campaign and we´ve been good friends since.
He was a remarkable, smart, witty, funny, kind, helpful, gentle man and will be missed.
My condolences to his mom, Marilyn and brother Joel. Please know he was so well regarded, respected, and loved.
I will miss him terribly!
Rest in Peace, my dear long-time friend.
As I always said after our conversations: "Still love you and miss you, Stephen!"

I worked with Steven and can't say I knew him personally but it felt like I did. He had a genuine interest in people. A great sense of humor, wit. To the Auerbach family, I'm sorry for your loss.

Steven Leslie Auerbach had an anointed gift for cooking. You couldn´t pay or teach anyone to have the sense that Steven was born with. He was a natural. And he also had it for gardening with flowers and herbs that he used regularly in his cooking. His plantings were gorgeous and healthy. He took me on regular tours of the house he owned to show the current reveals which were everywhere all around his property. Steve loved my mother and he totally helped me plant purple Astilbies in my front yard on Mothers Day when I bought my condo. AND, he was just as gifted with writing stories better than Edgar Allen Poe. I read one story of his when we were in school together that was so excruciatingly good it made my skin crawl. My brother still refers to Steve as the guy who gave me the sand painting that he made himself. Steven was such an interesting and engaging man it´s probably why he didn´t know how good he really was from being so immersed in all of his life´s engagement. He really really lived life to the fullest. Everyday. He would find good things about people and brag about them behind their back and to their face. He loved people so much that all our arguments ended with thunderous belly laughter. I met Steven in class together at Central High School when we were 14. His very first words to me were "Shut Up" and we were best friends by our sophomore year. He never missed a Christmas dinner at my family´s house especially when my Dad died. The only take-away I can get from his Steven´s passing is to be more like him because I miss him so much and, he got the secret of life right.

Steve was a good friend. He was kind and caring loved his mother and cats. He talked about them all often. Steve knew all the best places to eat. He loved discussing movies. Steve was always optimistic, while battling this illness he maintained a positive attitude and great sense of humor. You will be missed may he find eternal peace. God Bless.
