Sue (Clara) Marie Messina, age 78 of Bridgeport, the beloved wife of the late Jack Messina Jr., entered into eternal peace on Friday, August 12, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at the Lord Chamberlain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stratford. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on January 25, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Smith) Smerglinolo. Sue was full of life and sparkle and was loved instantly by everyone she met. She was retired from the Bridgeport Nutrition Center, and was a devoted Yankee Fan, a great cook, known especially for her un-replicated meatballs. She loved music and late night trips to Mohegan Sun. Sue's heart and soul however, was her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Sue loved her family more than anything and did everything and anything for them. We will miss our mother, Mema, and GG dearly. Sue leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her three daughters; Sue Koval and husband Peter of Bridgeport, Lori DeFrancesco and husband Vinny of Stratford, and Gail Rodriguez and husband Wayne of Bridgeport, and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Messina of Shelton. She also leaves her greatest joy, her 10 grandchildren; Peter and wife Christine Koval, Melissa Sakowich and husband John, Laura Ross and husband Jason, Lindsay Pereguda and husband Tom, Vincent Defrancesco, Jack Messina, Amanda Koval, Joseph Defrancesco, Wayne Rodriguez, and Gabriella Rodriguez, and five great grandchildren; Peter Jack Koval, Dillon Sakowich, Corey Koval, Clara Sakowich, and Siena Koval, her sister, Helen DeNitto, her brother, Michael Smerglinolo and wife Gail, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 42 years, Jack, she is also predeceased by her beloved son, Jack F. Messina, her brother, Frederick Smerglinolo, and wife Madeline Smerglinolo, her sister, Dorothy Gallant and husband Joseph Gallant, her brothers-in-law, Ralph DeNitto and Nicholas Messina, and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Piazza. Friends are invited to attend the Funeral on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Rd., Trumbull with a Mass of the Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport.
