Thomas Redgate Obituary

Thomas Joseph Redgate
Thomas Joseph Redgate, 80, son of John "Bus" and Mary Hollister Redgate, passed away peacefully in his home in Black Rock on December 15, 2024 with his loving family, wife Betsy and children Cara and Patrick, by his side. Tom was predeceased by his son Tom, his brothers John, Frank and his wife Iris, and Bill and his wife Ellen.
Tom was a graduate of St. Augustine's, '58, Fairfield Prep '62 and Boston College '66. During his school years, Tom excelled in sports, especially football and track. He was particularly proud to be a part of Prep's state championship team in '65. Following his graduation from college, he spent a short time working for a copy supply company. He and his brother Frank then started their own supply business in Fairfield, known as Xerographics. Their business grew to also include four copy centers located in Fairfield, Westport, Darien and Rye, NY. In 1994, Tom sold the business and began Redgate Town Car Service, providing airport transportation to Fairfield County patrons. During this time, he drove many celebrities from the worlds of politics, religion, journalism and the arts. If you were one of his lucky passengers, he shared his autograph book with you!
Tom loved power boating on Long Island Sound, Boston College football and NYC! He was a compassionate and generous member of the community, spending many hours volunteering as Director of Alumni Admissions for BC and as a long-time board member of the Thomas Merton Center. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Nancy Redgate and Cathy Stone, and his brother-in-law Dr. Jerry Hemenway and his wife Carol, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend its appreciation to our aide, Joan, and to all the Carolton Hospital and Hartford HealthCare and Hospice caregivers who ministered to Tom so compassionately during his illness. We are also grateful to all those who held us in prayer during these difficult years.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in OakLawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call Thursday 3-7 p.m. in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to The Thomas Merton Family Center, 1406 State Street, Bridgeport, CT 06605. To send condolences visit www.redgatehennessy.com

I was a member of the 1960 and 1961 track reams with Tom. He was the star sprinter on the team and a fantastic teammate.

Although I have not been in touch with him since them, his passing saddens me. We have lost a good man.

Cara, I'll never forget your Dad piloting the "Emerald C" on Long Island Sound during the summer when we were in high school! He was always so nice and he was in his element while out on the water. He now has a dock right on heaven's beach, taking his boat around the infinite ocean. May he rest in peace. My condolences to you, your mom, and Patrick.

So many memories of this smart, gentle, funny man throughout the years. He was one of those treasure you rarely find who can quietly teach you, make you laugh, and get you into places you would never otherwise be able to experience.
Tom lived for so long with pain, may you rest now in the comfort of the angel´s wings.
