Thomas Vitale Obituary

Thomas Sr. & Olga Vitale
Thomas L. Vitale Sr., age 80, and Olga Martinez Vitale, age 81, of Easton, both passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 9, 2024, into the loving arms of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thomas was born in Bridgeport on December 17, 1943, and was the son of the late Patrick J. Sr. and Catherine DeGirolamo Vitale. Olga was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, on May 2, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Miguel A. and Maria T. Vargas Martinez. Thomas and his brothers owned and operated Lane's Hair Stylist for many years, with Olga working right by his side. Thomas proudly served in the Army National Guard. They were dedicated parishioners of Notre Dame of Easton Church, teaching Confirmation classes, serving on many committees, and volunteering countless hours. They enjoyed doing for others and spreading the word of God to whoever needed to hear it.
Both Thomas and Olga enjoyed traveling, having gone cross-country with their family. They would go camping in their RV every chance they got. Olga always did her puzzles with a cup of tea and meticulously decorated their home for every holiday, especially Christmas, thanks to her frequent visits to Goodwill. Thomas was a leader on many mission trips and marched in Washington, DC, defending his beliefs. He looked forward to building projects at the Home Depot with all the children in his family on the first Saturday of every month. Thomas and Olga were married for 58 years. Their love for each other showed in every aspect of their lives. They were dedicated to the care and love of those who called them Mom and Dad, Ama and Papa, Cousin, Auntie Olga, and Uncle Tom. The values they taught and the unconditional love they gave will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them. Their survivors include their loving children, Joanna Vitale Goncalves and her husband Jack, Jennifer Vitale Larson and her husband Greg, Thomas Vitale Jr., and Christopher M. Vitale. They left behind eight cherished grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Makayla, Ashley and Joaquim Goncalves, Ethan, Gabriel and Isabella Vitale, Jason Larson and Devin Vitale, as well as their great-grandchildren, Lily, Emma, and Jackson. Thomas also leaves a brother, Patrick Vitale Jr., and his wife, Marceline, as well as several nieces and nephews. Thomas was predeceased by his sister, Grace Rowland, and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Barbara Vitale. Olga leaves a sister, Migdalia M. Kollar, and several nieces and nephews; she was predeceased by her sister, M. Teresa Martinez, and brother-in-law, Robert Kollar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. directly in Notre Dame of Easton Church, 655 Morehouse Rd., Easton. Interment will follow in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital. For online condolences, please visit us at www.abriola.com

On behalf of the William and Patricia Metzger family, formally of Easton. Tom and Olga were a living example of their Christian faith. Not only at Notre Dame church, but also at prayer groups, full gospel meetings and each individual encounter. Our deceased uncle George Metzger was a close friend of theirs. We are lifting you all up in prayer at this time and may you be blessed and comforted by Jesus promise of eternal life. May you be filled w peace and happy memories and faith in our Heavenly Father and heavenly home and our Savior Christ the Lord and the Holy Spirit.
Our sincere condolences and love.

Some of the best memories ingrained in my heart with Aunt Olga and Uncle Tom were Saturday's spent at Lane's where my mother Pia worked as a Hairstylist, when my sister Jenny and I were growing up in the 80's. I recall being so excited to come help at the shop folding towels with Aunt Olga, watching Uncle Tom do his bookkeeping, everyone always so happy to be there, hairstylists and customers alike. Uncle Tom and Aunt Olga had such a caring, warm and kind presence, to know them was to love them. As the seasons changed and the years passed, our family always stayed connected and kept in touch so much so that when I was married in 2003 we were honored to have Uncle Tom say the Blessing at our Wedding. I will always remember their kindness, love and graciousness. My sincerest condolences to the family during this difficult time.

I met Tom @ Sosj Saturday Mens group @ St. Theresa parish since Covid. We shared laughs and reflections during Scripture reading. The deepest impressions Tom left with me were his "smiles" and "sparkling eyes". the Lord shines His face upon Tom.

I look back with appreciation the times I shared participation in the Sons of St. Joseph meetings with Tom; being a part of his discussion group was a privilege. His perspective was that of a devout man, husband, father, with a lot of common sense and talents. May he and his wife and nephew rest in peace.
